“Brock Lesnar, You are next!!!More importantly, you are the last” – as Goldberg accepted the challenge made by Paul Heyman on behalf of his client Brock Lesnar on Raw, it was a frenzied feeling across the WWE universe. The rumours were going around for a few days as Goldberg roamed around the world for promotion purposes of the game WWE 2K17 and WWE was looking for a suitable opponent for Brock Lesnar for the iconic Survivor Series. It was highly anticipated by the WWE universe that WWE would take a serious attempt to rectify the epic botch that happened 12 years ago in Wrestlemania XX when the crowd booed both of them constantly as they were leaving.
But following his return, there has been a cold war between the hard core ‘wrestling’ fans and the ‘entertainment’ fans. The wrestling fans’ logic is simple: Goldberg is going to be 50 in a few days and in no ways he can put up a fight against a marauding beast who throws, opens up and destroys people in the ring. They fear that in all probability, the match will be slow, dull and full of botches.

On the other hand, there is a section, who watches WWE mainly for the entertainment part, are ecstatic seeing the WCW legend return, whom they eulogized in childhood as he kept beating nWo. Seeing Goldberg in ring for them is revisiting childhood and they can’t wait to actually see him performing once again after 12 long years. Goldberg has already cut a brilliant promo on his return and it will be essentially followed by some well worked reply by the ever brilliant Paul Heyman in the upcoming weeks of Raw. They are intrigued by the fact that apart from tickling the nostalgic bone, it will present them a gripping storyline which is rare in WWE these days.
If seen from WWE’s point of view, who are often criticized for banking on yesteryear’s superstars instead of pushing the new generation to grab the eyeballs, it was a brilliant move. It has created quite a buzz across social media and other online wrestling forums. Apart from increasing the sales of WWE 2K17 (where Goldberg is a pre order bonus character), it will surely bring back a lot of viewers who will just tune in to watch their childhood superstar. And it will be definitely interesting to observe how WWE treats this match- will Goldberg ‘kick ass’ one last time or WWE’s most commercially attractive star Brock Lesnar will just demolish him like all his other opponents. One thing is for sure, every WWE fan, irrespective of whether he/she is the fan of the middle ‘W’ or the right ‘E’, will tune in to watch the match. The countdown to Survivor Series is on!!!
